My thoughts: {Okay, I am not really a huge fan of that blurb. I would say that this book is not just for renegade women, but for everyone, really, to get a sense of the amazing women that have lived and continue to live amazing lives or live with a great sense of what they want out of their lives, regardless of what society says they can do. Also, I'm not into the whole 'worshipping' thing, just because I think that has a tendency to put women up on a pedestal and then watch as society hopes that they fall. Overall, though, this has little bearing on the actual contents of the book.
SO. BACK TO THE REVIEW, YES?}
This is quite a lovely little book, well put together, and Hall has done a great job of researching and writing small explanations about each of the women mentioned. I felt like the women covered were a fairly good mix - some that many of us have already heard of, and some that we may have no idea of. Some of them made me feel very hopeful, whilst others made me kind of angry (the treatment of Lise Meitner, for example).
Whilst reading this book I started to think about how our history is written, and how women rarely seem to feature - I love that that is changing somewhat these days - and how young girls really need role models like the ones contained in this book to aspire to. This is a great little book for introductions to wonderful women.
I will say one thing - I'm afraid I didn't really like the illustrations in this book. I found them a little samey - making all the women look pretty similar - but that is really a matter of personal preference. I do recommend picking up a copy and seeing if you like the artwork, or just reading the book because the content is wonderful regardless.
